Fetal and Neonatal Outcomes of Maternal Rheumatic diseases in a tertiary care centre of Lahore, Pakistan

Background: Pregnancy may worsen underlying autoimmune rheumatologic illnesses. The trans-placental transmission of autoantibodies can harm the foetus or newborn. Aim: To determine impact maternal rheumatological disorders on fetal and newborn outcomes. Methods: A descriptive longitudinal study was conducted at Fatima Memorial Hospital enrolling 32 pregnant women with by consecutive sampling. Data collected regarding demographics, diagnosis, serum markers, Fetal & neonatal outcome factors (IUGR, distress, Umbilical Doppler findings, Echo, Place birth, Mode delivery, discharge status, Term/pre-term Gender, Low Birth Weight, Cardiac defect, NICU stay, reason for stay) Results: diagnosis 50% subjects SLE. 25%subjects were suffering from RA. Regarding mothers Anti ds DNA positive followed ANA 34.4% Lupus anticoagulant 21.9% positivity. IUGR recorded in 9.4%, distress 28.1%, abnormal umbilical doppler 12.5% a could not survive. Pre-term delivery 31.3% cases, low birth weight 34.4%, cardiac defects 6.3%, thrombocytopenia stay required 31.3%, EOS RDS 25%. Conclusion: Prevalence IUGR, weight, preterm admission to high females.
